SkyCoach sideline replay helps Gonzaga College lacrosse with extra in-game information | ‘It works.’
In terms of lacrosse in the Mid-Atlantic area, Gonzaga College High School has built itself into a powerhouse program, and the Eagles have been a SkyCoach customer for several years now.
Gonzaga assistant coach Jesse Miller sets up the SkyCoach replay system prior to the contest and he also holds an iPad during the game to look at the plays that just took place.
“SkyCoach is definitely useful to give you that extra in-game information.”
Miller said prior to SkyCoach, Gonzaga didn’t use any type of in-game replay system.
“We have a faceoff coach, so we look at all the faceoffs to see what the other guys are doing,” said Miller, who also uses the SkyCoach system for his own Youtube lacrosse channel. “The other things we use it for is any goals so we can communicate to the defense what happened. Stuff in the clearing game if there’s a failed clear or if they’re doing some sort of a ride, which is like a press in basketball. Goals that we scored to see what worked. Any bad calls or penalties to see if it was a good or bad call. Man up or man down situations too.”
The Eagles made the switch last year from using a laptop to start and stop the replay system to now using SkyCoach’s Remote Camera Kit, which is included in our Platinum Plus, Platinum, Gold and Silver packages.
“It’s been easier because I don’t have to lug my computer around. I don’t have to worry about leaving my computer somewhere,” Miller said. “One time we had the computer setup and our manager was supposed to bring it back afterwards and forgot it so we lost it and had to buy a new one.”
When SkyCoach asked Miller what he thought the biggest impact has been, he said: “It works. You can make adjustments defensively. There’s a reason why some of the top coaches are using it because it’s just more information you can have. If a program can afford it, has a coach willing to take the reins and they’re trying to win games, then SkyCoach is definitely useful to give you that extra in-game information.”
