Texas 6A power Katy football uses SkyCoach replay for instant feedback: “It’s worth the investment.”
The Katy Tigers, one of the premier programs in Texas 6A high school football, used SkyCoach’s Platinum Plus package—featuring three replay angles—to elevate their in-game decision making. With nine state championships in school history, Katy knows the value of a competitive edge. According to Katy special teams coordinator and offensive line coach Ty Carter, SkyCoach delivered exactly that.
“We were fortunate to get in early enough that we had three angles—end zone, tight and wide upstairs,” Carter shared. “We were real blessed to have the end zone for our line coaches and running backs, and also the tight and wide views to evaluate DB drops, routes and more.”
Katy joined SkyCoach after hearing strong word of mouth. Carter credits legendary head coach Gary Joseph and his son, Jeff Joseph, a fellow high school coach at Port Neches-Groves, also a SkyCoach customer, for bringing SkyCoach to Katy.
“We knew it was going to be a lot more seamless with SkyCoach,” Carter said. “When they passed the rule allowing us to use replay systems, SkyCoach was the obvious choice.”
Carter admits not everyone on staff was immediately enthusiastic about the added layer of technology—“guys were grumbling and groaning”—but that changed quickly once the results came in.
“There were at least once or twice a game where SkyCoach directly impacted our play calling,” he said. “It came to us so quickly. It wasn’t something we had to wait until halftime for. It was instant feedback that helped us make adjustments.”
In fact, one particular moment stood out: “We ran a pass play that didn’t hit, but we saw the adjustment on SkyCoach. We lined up in a different formation and scored on the same concept. It was in a big game, too.”
SkyCoach’s support team also earned high praise. During a playoff game at NRG Stadium, the unique NFL stadium layout created setup issues for the Tigers. Carter said a quick Zoom call with SkyCoach’s team resolved everything.
“When I need help, I’m never waiting. That’s the biggest thing. SkyCoach won’t leave you hanging,” he emphasized. “If you have a problem on Monday, you’re not waiting until Friday night to get it fixed.”
Beyond game night, SkyCoach also streamlined the film upload process for Carter. “We don’t use SD cards anymore. We upload everything from the cloud using the SkyCoach app, right from the stadium if we have Wi-Fi.”
For a program like Katy, time is precious—and SkyCoach delivers.
“It saves you time Friday night after games. It saves you time on Saturdays. You don’t have to intercut anymore, and you don’t miss clips. It’s worth the investment.”
Coach Ty Carter’s message is clear: SkyCoach helps championship programs stay ahead.
